The acronym AWANA comes from 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth".
AWANA is for ages 2+ all the way through 6th grade, starting the first week in September and ending the last week in May.
AWANA exists to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Jesus Christ and train them to serve Him. Children learn and recite bible verses each week. The three segments of each AWANA meeting are: Game Time, Handbook Time, and Council Time. The heart of AWANA is the gospel message - that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again. Everyone is a sinner and deserves eternal punishment. Jesus Christ, God's Son, paid the penalty for our sin when He was crucified on the cross and rose from the dead. If we trust Jesus Christ as our Savior, we receive God's gift of eternal life in heaven. Once we trust Jesus Christ as our Savior, we can never lose our salvation.
